Membership Benefits

Professional Development

The Northern Virginia Writers Club hosts monthly meetings with guest speakers and workshops on the craft and business of writing. Past meetings have included topics on Kickstarters, Show VS Tell, Social Media, Social Justice Writing, and audiobooks. Our guest speakers have included established authors and teachers of writing, business managers for authors, editors, and PR reps.

Networking

The club facilitates networking with other authors through our Facebook page, a Discord server, social media accounts, two in-person social events each year, and time to socialize before each meeting.

Critique and Beta

The club hosts a monthly critique group and keeps a list of potential beta readers. All members are welcome to join or form a critique group. Groups establish their own preferences for how often, and where they meet, including online. Contact the club for more information.

Book Festivals and Events

The club purchases booth space at several festivals throughout the years, providing members with an opportunity to sell their books and connect with readers. Additionally the club hosts author signing and panel events at libraries. The club also organizes author talks and signings at various Barnes and Nobles in the area, and a restaurant in Old Town Alexandria. Contact the club for more information.

Golden Nib

The states writing contest requires entry through a local chapter. The Northern Virginia Writers Club hosts the first level of entry for the writing contest. See the Writing Opportunities page for more information on dates and guidelines.
