Membership Benefits
Professional Development
The Northern Virginia Writers Club hosts monthly meetings with guest speakers and workshops on the craft and business of writing. Our guest speakers include established authors in a variety of genres, acclaimed writing and marketing instructors, business managers for authors, editors, and PR reps. Guest speakers are recorded and posted to YouTube for members. View our current schedule here.
Networking
The club facilitates networking with other authors through our member-only Writers Room collaboration portal, a Facebook group, summer and holiday socials, and time to socialize at meetings.
Critique and Beta
The club hosts critique group and has both editors and beta readers as members. All members are welcome to join a critique group within the Writers Room, our secure collaboration portal. Groups establish their own preferences for how often and where they meet, including online.
Book Festivals and Events
The club purchases booth space at several festivals throughout the years, providing members with an opportunity to sell their books and connect with readers. Additionally, the club hosts author signing and panel events at libraries. The club also organizes author talks and signings at various bookstores, primarily Barnes and Nobles, in the area and a restaurant in Old Town, Alexandria.
Golden Nib
The Virginia Writers Club’s annual Golden Nib contest requires entry through a local chapter. The Northern Virginia Writers Club hosts the first level of entry for the writing contest.
